Abstract: A myriad of incompatible “standard” clinical data models hinders application interoperability. We are adapting the Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2) platform so that its common web service layer can run atop these diverse data models, providing a single common application interface. Furthermore, apps written for the Substitutable Apps, Reusable Technology (SMART) platform can also run on i2b2 web services, with the addition of a component that translates i2b2 web services into Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) messages. Here, we demonstrate SMART apps running on Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership’s (OMOP’s) and PCORnet’s Common Data Models (CDMs) using i2b2 web services.

Learning Objective 1: After this activity, participants will be better able to implement available SMART apps on their research data sets.
